Our History

Matteiplast S.r.l. was founded in February 1974 by siblings Gina and Francesco Mattei.
The company is headquartered in San Lazzaro di Savena, in the province of Bologna, and operates in the recycled and reusable flexible packaging sector. In 1991, Gina Mattei and her nephew Gianluca Mattei were joined by her son Stefano Mangherini, who over the years has developed new products in plastic, paper, compostable, and regenerated materials, giving the company an international dimension thanks to the evolution of its clients. Today, Matteiplast has become a company specialized in the production of packaging and shoppers made from reusable paper and plastic materials. Sales activities are primarily directed toward the industrial, food, logistics, construction, and metalworking sectors.

Incorporation → February 1974

In Bologna, Gina and Francesco Mattei, with a strong passion for innovation and deep respect for the environment, founded Matteiplast, a company dedicated to the production and trade of plastic packaging.

Relocation → January 1978

From its original location in Ozzano dell’Emilia, it moved to San Lazzaro at Via Aldo Moro 44, where it is still located today

Transformation → July 1989

Fifteen years later, thanks to steady growth, Matteiplast Snc became a limited liability company, maintaining its core values of quality, sustainability, and social responsibility.

New partner → January 1994

Stefano Mangherini became a new partner in Matteiplast, bringing new product ideas and market opportunities.

Expansion → January 2000

The production site was supplemented by two warehouses for storing finished products, one of which is dedicated to food contact packaging.

Sports and Social Commitment → September 2006

After a decade of sponsoring the Hercolani Castelguelfo men’s team, starting from the regional league and culminating in reaching the final for promotion to Serie B (lost against Venice), in 2011, thanks to the friendship with Gianfranco Civolani, a historic sports journalist from Bologna and president of Progresso Basket Femminile, Matteiplast became the main sponsor of the women’s team, accompanying them from Serie B to Serie A, reached both in 2017 against Geas Milano and in 2019 against Alpo Verona.

 

 
 
 

Innovation → February 2018

With an eye to the future, the company acquired a new Industry 4.0 heat sealer for the production department, to interconnect production data with company software and guarantee the production process.

 

Sustainability → April 2024

Matteiplast received the EcoVadis silver medal and Synesgy environmental certification to measure its environmental footprint through the Scope 2 certificate, officially becoming a sustainable company. Our sustainability journey continues with the installation of 2 charging stations for vehicles powered by a 20 kW photovoltaic system installed on the roof.
